Trips out with our Dogs
Our dogs are very much a part of our family and we like them to join us when we take trips either away on holiday or simply out for the day. On this page we will attempt to build up some ideas of where we have had good and bad experiences. Click on the links below to find out more. ALWAYS REMEMBER WHEN TRAVELING WITH YOUR DOG!!!
Braefoot, Rockliffe, Dumfries and Galloway This was a weekend break spent with friends. The setting of this house was great, right on the edge of a beach which was ideal for the dogs. There is some good walking in this area but unless you are with someone who knows the area well you would need to do a bit of research. Coastal walks with lovely scenery a great activity for sharing the fun with your four legged friend. Many of the local pubs in this area are happy to accept dogs inside as well as outside so you can always stop off for a drink and a bite too eat. If you are travelling in this area as with most of Scotland make sure that your dog is treated for ticks as they can easily be picked up when walking. Treatments available from your vet such as Frontline will give you such protection. Lochside Stable House Under Construction
Skegness, Lincolnshire This was of the first places we went to for a day trip after getting Hamish. We did not find this a dog-friendly place to visit, access to the beach was restricted for dogs and most other facilities would not accept them. Not somewhere we would return with our dogs.
Ambleside, The Lake District
The Lake District is one of our favourite places at all times of year. Ambleside provides lots of walks for all levels of ability and fitness. The town has a range of shops and many of these are dog-friendly. We were at first hesitant of going in with our dogs but were encouraged by shop owners and staff including the art gallery in the centre of town. On one day trip to Ambleside we took a sightseeing boat ride across the lake from Waterhead accompanied by our dogs and great fun was had by all. Local pubs also welcome dogs many allowing them into the main bar areas. We have enjoyed many great days in Ambleside wiith our dogs.
Keswick, The Lake District
Keswick is in many ways similar to Ambleside except that the town centre is bigger and can be too busy at peak times, we'd reccomend keeping out of the town with your dog. If you head instead for the Theatre by the Lake less than a mile away you will find a more relaxed place with plenty of walks and Keswick Launch to investigate. The Cafe just above Keswick Launch welcomes dogs in its terraced garden and provides welcome refreshment for humans and a bowl of water for dogs on request.
Llandudno, North Wales
We did not find Llandudno to be particularly dog-friendly, the main part of the beach has restrictions during peak times and there are very few dog-friendly places within the town. If you go out of season and take a home-made picnic you will find some average seaside walks.
